SUSTAINABLE LIFECYCLE MONITORING SOLUTIONS FOR OFFSHORE ENERGY

DataXplorer
TM
At Open Ocean Robotics, we provide cutting-edge solutions to meet the unique challenges of the offshore energy sector. Our innovative uncrewed surface vehicles (USVs) enable safer, more efficient, and environmentally friendly operations for offshore energy projects, including wind farms, oil and gas platforms, and tidal energy installations.

As offshore energy development accelerates, understanding and monitoring our oceans has become more crucial than ever. Accurate ocean data collection is essential for assessing seabed conditions, evaluating environmental impacts, and ensuring safe and efficient resource extraction.

Our solar-powered, uncrewed surface vehicle, the DataXplorer™, is equipped with advanced sensors, cameras, and acoustics to deliver real-time ocean data to stakeholders. This revolutionary approach to data collection is safer, more efficient, and cost-effective, operating without greenhouse gas emissions, noise pollution, or oil spill risks. It can function autonomously for weeks, continuously collecting vital information.
OUR KEY CAPABILITIES
HYDROGRAPHIC SURVEYING
Our USVs carry multibeam and side-scan sonars, sub-bottom profilers, and other tools for high-quality geophysical monitoring with precise positioning and data processing.
SITE SURVEY AND MAPPING
We provide precise seabed mapping and site surveys, ensuring optimal placement and maintenance of offshore energy infrastructure. Using multi-beam sonar and side-scan sonar we support Marine Archaeological Resources Assessment (MARA) required for construction planning.
MARINE MAMMAL MONITORING
Our extremely quiet USV can detect, identify, and locate marine mammals using thermal and visual cameras and passive acoustics, providing real-time alerts to mariners.
ASSET SECURITY
With thermal and 360-degree optical cameras, and an AIS detector, our USV provides continuous 24/7 monitoring. Constant real-time alerts along with multiple operational modes including loiter, patrol, or track offers a reliable and adaptable way to monitor offshore assets.
CONTINUOUS ASSET INSPECTION
Our USVs conduct routine inspections of offshore assets, reducing the need for costly and high-risk manned operations. These capabilities include
detecting structural anomalies and inspecting cables, moorings, and turbines
ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING
With atmospheric and oceanographic sensors, we can monitor everything from wind speeds to weather, currents to oil spills. Our USV can patrol in shallow waters or offshore and endure the extreme sea states encountered in stormy or high wind environments.
Offshore Energy Operations
Case Study: Advanced Terminal Mapping

Open Ocean Robotics' DataXplorer™ demonstrated its capabilities in conducting high-resolution bathymetric and side-scan surveys for terminal mapping. This solar-powered, emission-free USV provided continuous, autonomous operations, delivering precise data critical for dredging and terminal logistics. Equipped with an advanced PING DSP 3DSS-DX-450 sonar system, the DataXplorer™ efficiently mapped underwater landscapes, identified siltation rates, and calculated dredge volumes, all while minimizing disruptions to terminal activities.

Case Study: Hydrographic Survey

Open Ocean Robotics DataXplorer™ demonstrated expceptional capabilities in conducting multibeam and side scan hydrographic surverys. This solar-powered, emission-free USV efficiently surveyed underwater areas to international standards, reach depths of up to 130 meters over 38 hours of operation on a single charge. With its real-time control and customizable sensor payload, DataXplorer™ provides a safer, more efficient, and cost-effective solution for collecting high-quality bathymetric data essential for offshore wind energy projects. This technology ensures accurate mapping of seabed conditions, enhancing the safety and planning of wind farm installations

Case Study: Marine Mammal Monitoring for Vineyard Wind

Open Ocean Robotics was a winner in the Offshore Wind Challenge from Vineyard Winds, Greentown Labs, and MassCEC. This multi-month project advanced our capabilities in real-time marine mammal monitoring for North Atlantic Right Whales NARW)
