Celebrating Excellence in Ocean Innovation: A Milestone for Open Ocean Robotics

At OCEANS 2025 in Chicago, Open Ocean Robotics had the honour of receiving the MTS Compass Organizational Excellence Award, sponsored by Sea Technology magazine. This award, presented by the Marine Technology Society, recognizes outstanding contributions to the advancement of marine science and technology, which is a mission deeply embedded in everything we do.

Accepting the award on behalf of the team, our CEO and Co-Founder, Julie Angus, reflected on what excellence truly means:

“Excellence is not the result of one person or one achievement but the collective commitment of many working together towards a shared mission. At Open Ocean Robotics we believe in how technology can transform how we understand and protect our oceans and this award is not just about what we have accomplished but it is about what we can achieve together as a team and as a global community.”

We are proud to be part of a community committed to advancing ocean research, sustainability, and innovation. From deploying autonomous, zero-emission vessels for marine mammal monitoring to using real-time data for illegal fishing enforcement and maritime domain awareness, our work is guided by the belief that better ocean data leads to better decisions and ultimately, a better future for our planet.

As we continue to grow and expand our impact, this recognition strengthens our drive to keep pushing boundaries and building collaborative partnerships in ocean technology.

To the Marine Technology Society, our partners, and our dedicated team, thank you. We look forward to the next chapter in advancing ocean innovation together.
